Event Type

Calling all researchers and innovators, we’d like to invite you to a webinar aimed at colleagues who are either interested in developing their research ideas into a funding proposal or re-engaging in research. We want to hear your views on what training and development activities you would like us to prioritise.

WEBINAR: “On the Same Page: Honing Your Research Ideas Through to Writing that Big Bid!”

Target audience: For all SHU academics/ECRs who are interested in developing their research skills or for staff who are restarting their research careers.

Delivered By: Professor Dan Allwood of Peak Writing and Dr Elaine Massung of Academic Smartcuts.

Date: 30th January 2025, 10:30 – 11:30am (online).

  • Would you like to adopt practices and mindsets that will help form viable research ideas?
  • Do you want to develop more competitive research proposals, or are you an early-career researcher struggling to write your first proposal?
  • Are you a mid-career researcher wanting to re-engage with your research?

If your answer to ANY of these questions is yes, then please attend a one-hour webinar on 30th January 2025 (10:30-11:30am) and afterwards let us know what you would like to see offered to SHU R&I staff.

The webinar will be delivered by Professor Dan Allwood of Peak Writing and Dr Elaine Massung of Academic Smartcuts. Dan was a research fellow and academic for 17 years and has a strong funding and publishing track record, while Elaine was a researcher and EPSRC portfolio manager. They now train academics and researchers in universities across the UK.

The webinar will introduce you to several of their training programmes, for example:

  • idea generation for research (Proposal Launchpad)
  • writing competitive proposals (Couch to £500k)
  • for mid-career academics, practical approaches to re-engaging with research (Rekindling Your Research).

Following the webinar, you will be invited to submit your thoughts to the SHU Research and Innovator Development Academy (RIDA) Team on which programmes you would like us to prioritise and are interested in attending.

Please register here if you’d like to attend.
