10:00-10:30     Dr Shengke Zhi: Decarbonising Industry: The Role of Carbon Capture Technologies

Dr Shengke Zhi is a Client Director at AtkinsRéalis, based in Manchester, where he leads strategic client engagement within the Complex Projects team. With a background in engineering and a strong track record in delivering complex infrastructure and energy projects, Shengke is deeply involved in advancing industrial decarbonisation initiatives across the UK. He is also a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) at Sheffield Hallam University – an award hosted by Dr Hongwei Zhang as Academic Champion from 2025 to 2028.

 

The week commencing 10 November marks SHU’s Sustainability Action Week, so we are especially delighted to feature a presentation focused on sustainability and decarbonisation in industry.

 10:30-11:00     Sabina Laveglia: Advancing Rice Quality Assessment through Hyperspectral Imaging and Chemometric Modelling

Sabina is a PhD student in Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences at the University of Basilicata, Italy. Until recently, she was a visiting student at AFIC supervised by Dr Hongwei Zhang and focussing on the application of non-destructive advanced techniques and machine learning/chemometric models to assess food quality, with an emphasis on cereals and rice.
