The Equity in Doctoral Education through Partnership and Innovation (EDEPI) programme, in partnership with AdvanceHE would like to invite you to attend a two-part workshop to explore how we can create more equitable outcomes for individuals seeking, and partaking in postgraduate research opportunities.
About this event
This workshop, delivered online over 2 half-day sessions, is designed for staff engaged in doctoral education (those who supervise or otherwise support doctoral students). Through engagement with this programme, you will:
- Be enabled to think critically about your role;
- Develop skills and agency to promote inclusion;
- Receive support to develop greater understanding of race equity, specifically in the context of doctoral education;
- Develop the insight and skills to identify and effect changes to behaviours, using practical tools and techniques.
Audience
This workshop is aimed at all interested Academic and Professional Services staff who work with PGR students (e.g. Heads of Research Degrees, Postgraduate Research Tutors, Supervisors, Research Institute PGR Teams, Doctoral School Team, Library, Careers and Student Wellbeing staff).
Context
The workshop has been co-created with AdvanceHE as part of Work Package 3 (WP3) of the EDEPI programme which aims to increase the participation of racially minoritised groups in doctoral education. WP3 aims to address concerns that students from racialised groups, at all levels of higher education, can often feel they do not belong. This lack of belonging can lead to disengagement, withdrawal from enrichment activities and a reduction in attainment and progression.
The above programme forms part of the wider EDEPI Programme, which is one of 13 Research England and Office for Students funded programmes, created to tackle persistent inequalities that create barriers to access and participation in doctoral education for racially minoritised groups. Delivered across Nottingham Trent, Sheffield Hallam and Liverpool John Moores, our aim is to dismantle the policies, processes and practices that perpetuate inequality for our postgraduate researchers. Part of that involves the creation of communities of staff across our institutions who are invested in creating a more inclusive and equitable research culture.
The dates and times of the sessions are below, you should attend both sessions. Please note these sessions are running online, joining information will be sent a week before the first session.
- Tuesday 10th September – 9.30-1pm
- Thursday 12th September – 9.30-1pm
Book your place via this MS Form. Please note that this workshop is for STAFF only, it is not aimed at PGR students.
