NCRC Conversation Series: Foundations for Success: The Supervisor and PGR Partnership Agreement

Tuesday 6th May 2025, 1:00 – 2:00pm

Join NCRC for a conversation exploring how Supervisor and PGR Partnership Agreements can support open discussion to prevent misalignment of objectives and establish clear expectations from the outset.

The supervisory relationship is a crucial factor in the success of a PhD. This relationship is often built on a shared interest in the research project, which can play a significant role in fostering a strong working connection. However, as with any relationship, conflicts or disagreements can arise, leading to tension or even a breakdown in communication.

Led by Lina Al Jabbar from Southampton University, we will hear how they used a variety of methods to identify key topics of discussion that could help establish a healthy and productive working relationship early in the research process. The resulting Supervisor and PGR Partnership Agreement outlines the shared responsibilities of both parties in this relationship, the key points to be addressed and mutually agreed upon, ensuring a positive and collaborative experience throughout the research project.

Presenter:

Lina Al Jabbar is the Research Culture Lead in the Doctoral College at the University of Southampton. In this role, she focuses on understanding the challenges that impact the experiences of postgraduate researchers (PGRs) and works to enhance research culture through various projects and initiatives.

Registration is now open. All welcome.
