SUMMARY:SERI Supervisor Training - Working with your doctoral students’ w
 riting
DESCRIPTION:Writing.\n\nIt’s so integral to the doctorate at every stage\
, from drafting the initial proposal to finalising the thesis. We know tha
t students don’t just “write up”. Students write continuously: resea
 rch notes\, transcriptions\, abstracts for conferences\, posters\, RF1s\,
drafts of chapters and so on. For most of us\, writing is thinking and thi
nking entails writing. Researchers are writers. We also know that that wri
ting “issues” can delay or prevent our doctoral students from finishin
g their theses. And we know that supervisors are imperative in not only in
ducting students into disciplinary writing\, but also ensuring that their
students develop habits and dispositions that enable their evolution into
competent writers. To support supervisors in this crucial work\, we are of
fering this workshop on working with your doctoral students’ writing. In
part 1 of this workshop\, we will begin by unpacking what it means to wri
te the doctorate and our role as supervisors in that process. This will pr
ovide a frame for part 2\, in which we will explore some tools for working
with our doctoral students’ writing.\n\nThe workshop will be held face-
to-face in the Sheffield Institute of Education. Participants are requeste
d to bring laptops. No teaching materials will be printed unless specifica
lly requested. Lunch will be provided.\n\nSign up: Microsoft Forms.\n\nBI
