Join us for an insightful workshop on equity in higher education and the imperative need for empathy toward underrepresented groups in PGR. This is a 4-hour training delivered on campus on October 16th from 12:30pm – 4pm. Light lunch is provided for those attending from 12:30-1:00pm.
This workshop will explore the crucial themes of privilege and perspective while delving into the historical legacies of racism, slavery, and colonialism, examining their enduring impact on ethnic minority students. Together, we’ll uncover the power of recognising our privileges and discuss strategies for leveraging them to support and uplift our students effectively. We will explore the Yoruba concept of Omoluabi, which emphasises virtues and community values, and the African philosophy of Ubuntu, celebrating shared humanity. We’ll discuss the significance of British values in higher education and examine how they contribute to creating inclusive environments. The session will also guide participants on transitioning from non-racist to anti-racist attitudes, offering strategies for actively challenging discrimination and promoting equity.
