What is a Narrative CV? A narrative CV is a CV format that provides a structured written description of a person’s contributions and achievements that reflects a broad range of relevant skills and experiences, more than can often be seen in a traditional academic CV. They are highly flexible and can be used by a range of people and organisations in a range of contexts within research and innovation (R&I), from applying for funding, to recruitment to a role. The narrative CV format is now the standard format required for many funding applications and has been incorporated into several Sheffield Hallam processes including the annual Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange (RIKE) plan. For more information see Narrative CVs – Researcher and Innovator Development Academy
In this session we will cover:
- What is a narrative CV and why are we using them?
- Sharing experience of writing and reviewing narrative CVs
- Activity 1: Mapping out your own narrative CV
- Activity 2: Structuring your examples
- Discussion and signposting to further support
Target audience: This session is aimed at staff who are new to the narrative CV and didn’t submit one along with their R&I plan last year. Please come ready to work on your narrative CV, whether that is adapting examples from a standard academic CV or fine-tuning a draft narrative CV that you have already prepared.
These sessions will run for 90 minutes on City Campus. Rooms will be confirmed via an Outlook calendar request after booking.
