SUMMARY:Independent Chair and Examiner Training
DESCRIPTION:The workshop is intended to be of benefit to a wide range of Sh
 effield Hallam staff with an interest in\, or responsibility for\, researc
 h degree student examinations.  It is likely to be of particular interest
  to inexperienced research degree examiners and inexperienced independent 
 chairs and staff who are considering putting themselves forward for either
  or both of these roles.\n\nAims\n\n 	to raise awareness of the University
 's Research Degree Examination Procedures.\n 	to explore the roles of the 
 internal and external examiner and independent chair.\n 	to provide an opp
 ortunity for sharing good practice.\n 	to encourage debate on the issues a
 round the definition and maintenance of research degree standards.\n 	to e
 xplore the management and conduct of the viva voce examination.\n 	to beco
 me familiar with the requirements of learning contracts in vivas.\n\nWe wi
 ll also be discussing the different formats of vivas available.\n\nThis se
 ssion is for Sheffield Hallam staff only and not open to Students.  Pleas
 e note that if you are a member of staff currently studying for a doctorat
 e\, you will not be eligible to act as an Examiner or Independent Chair un
 til after you have received your award.\n\nThis session is now full but we
