SUMMARY:Independent Chair and Examiner Training
DESCRIPTION:Room TBC\n\nThe workshop is intended to be of benefit to a wide
  range of Sheffield Hallam staff with an interest in\, or responsibility f
 or\, research degree student examinations.  It is likely to be of particu
 lar interest to inexperienced research degree examiners and inexperienced 
 independent chairs and staff who are considering putting themselves forwar
 d for either or both of these roles.\n\nAims\n\n 	to raise awareness of th
 e University's Research Degree Examination Procedures.\n 	to explore the r
 oles of the internal and external examiner and independent chair.\n 	to pr
 ovide an opportunity for sharing good practice.\n 	to encourage debate on 
 the issues around the definition and maintenance of research degree standa
 rds.\n 	to explore the management and conduct of the viva voce examination
 .\n 	to become familiar with the requirements of learning contracts in viv
 as.\n\nWe will also be discussing the different formats of vivas available
 .\n\nThis in person session is for Sheffield Hallam staff only and not ope
 n to Students.  Please note that if you are a member of staff currently s
 tudying for a doctorate\, you will not be eligible to act as an Examiner o
 r Independent Chair until after you have received your award.\n\nPlease re
