SUMMARY:Commercialisation of University intellectual property
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 6th November\, 2-4pm\n\n90 minutes (+up to 30 minutes
  of additional Q&amp\;A time at the end)\nOnline (please note the session 
 will be recorded)\n\nWork done by university staff and students often invo
 lves creation and use of intellectual property (IP). While IP is a non-phy
 sical kind of property\, it can be bought and sold and if it is useful in 
 goods/services\, its financial value can be significant. Proper handling o
 f IP matters improves the prospects for:\n\n- achieving impact from the r
 esults of research/innovation projects\; and\n- generating income for SHU 
 and for IP creators.\n\nSHU also has obligations to handle IP matters prop
 erly\, those obligations including ones that arise from:\n\n- IP-related l
 aw\n- charity law and associated regulations\n- SHU’s Articles of Govern
 ment\, regulations and policies\n- contracts with funders\, collaborators\
 , clients etc.\n\nThis interactive session is intended primarily for SHU s
 taff involved in research and innovation activity (current or planned). Fo
 llowing a brief introduction to the basics of what IP is and how it can be
  protected\, the agenda will move on to areas that feature prominently amo
 ng IP and commercialisation enquiries raised with Innovation Services.\n\n
