Leading Through Change: Supporting Yourself and Others

Overview
A practical session on change theory, understanding your own reactions and building coaching skills to support others through change.

This session is designed to look at the concept of change at an organisational level, consider your personal response to it and develop the coaching skills to lead others through change – with confidence.

The session covers theory, application to practice and coaching skills for the leadership conversations that matter most in research culture.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain key theories of change and apply them to the research culture context.
  2. Identify their own responses to change and what influences their practice.
  3. Use a coaching skills framework to support researchers through periods of change.

Format

The session will be held online via Microsoft Teams and will be led by Irene Adeyinka (she/her), an executive Coach and Consultant in leadership and culture.

Irene works with organisations across higher education, professional services and technology. She served as a Non-Executive Director at Goldsmiths, University of London for five years, sitting on the HR, Audit and Risk committees and supporting the institution through periods of organisational change.

She is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Governance and Inclusion and sits on the steering group for NERC’s Opening up the Environment programme, a UKRI initiative to increase diversity across the environmental science research community. She is the author of the leadership series Lead How You Want to Be Led and has spoken at national conferences including Universities UK and Women on Boards.
