Would you benefit from having a mentor from outside of your normal network?
We are pleased to announce the Mid-Career Researcher Mentoring scheme is now open for 2024-25. You will be matched with experienced academics from either Lancaster University, Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Manchester, the University of Salford, Leeds Beckett University or Norwich Medical School (University of East Anglia).
The value of these cross institutional partnerships and relationships is well documented and gives Sheffield Hallam colleagues an opportunity to access support from outside of their normal sphere, giving a broader perspective and increasing networking opportunities.
The pilot of this programme was showcased at the Vitae researcher development conference, as an example of excellent support for researchers. Feedback from the participants (both mentors and mentees) was extremely positive.
Colleagues will be able to access mentee places from other institutions as part of a reciprocal arrangement, the number of mentee places available to each institution is dependent on the number of mentors who applied from that University.
Mentees
Application forms for mentees can be accessed here. Applications for mentees are open until 28 February 2025. We are not using a strict definition of Mid-Career Researcher for this scheme and invite all academics who consider themselves to be at mid-career level with respect to their research and innovation experience to apply for a place. We have limited places available on the scheme so please get your application in quickly as we may need to close applications before the advertised deadline.
Mentors
We are looking for experienced academics and research leaders to mentor mid-career colleagues from a range of institutions. The mentoring is ‘light-touch’ with 3-4 meetings online taking place over a four-month period. As well as the benefits of mentoring, we hope this way of supporting the wider researcher community will also develop into longer-term collaborations and cocreation models for research.
As the mentoring scheme is a reciprocal arrangement, the number of mentee places available to each institution is dependent on the number of mentors who applied from that university. We would really appreciate if you would consider applying to act as a mentor in order to maximise the number of mid-career colleagues who are able to access and benefit from this scheme.
